Why Service My Transmission?
Just like changing your engine oil, replacing your transmission fluid will help you get the most life out of your transmission. The fluid in your transmission breaks down due to the high operating temperatures and pressures inside today's transmissions and can become contaminated with the normal byproducts of friction and wear from the many moving parts inside your transmission. Degenerated fluid cannot properly lubricate or protect your precision-machined transmission parts. Some of the material that wears off of these parts becomes suspended in the fluid, creating an abrasive mixture that causes further wear throughout your transmission. Many automatic transmission also has an internal fluid filter that can become restricted with this suspended material, affecting the operation of the transmission.
Where Does the Fluid Go?
In the transmission
the fluid is in
two areas, the
pan and the torque converter. When the motor is running, the fluid
is pumped out of the pan, into the torque converter, through the
cooler lines and the cooler in the radiator and then back to the pan.
